Craft Room Organization

My desk has been bugging me for awhile now.  I use this desk for painting and smashing.  But as you can see I don't have a lot of room to do either.

Let me introduce you to the solution.  It is called the Raskog, from IKEA.  I was going to use it for my smash stuff, but I decided to make it my art cart.  I can fit all my paints, markers, brushes... in this lovely cart!

I was able to clean off all my supplies and I have easy access to it all!

Now I have a large work space and I can spread out as much as I want.  I don't have to worry about knocking things over and making more of a mess.  I am glad I made the investment of this pretty little cart.

In celebration of my new work area, I created a winter canvas.  Our little part of Virginia is covered in snow.  So I though I would create a street scene.

Washi Tape Snowman

Today I created a cute canvas for my front hall shelf.  This is my version of the washi tape snowman. (Originally created by Christy Tomlinson.)  I used a 6x12 canvas and a variety of  tapes.  When I make a canvas I use just plain, cheap acrylic paints from AC Moore or Michaels.  I drip the paint around the canvas and smear it around the canvas.  I do use a latex type glove to move the paint.  Then I use a heat gun to dry it.  I use Gesso and a sponge/bubble wrap to add texture (snow) to the canvas.

Then I picked out a nice selection of tapes
to use for my snowman.  I taped them down on the canvas like I was stacking packages or blocks.  I put a good coat of Modge Podge over the tape to make sure they stick down.

Next I took my favorite Faber Castell Big Brush markers and colored/shaded around each of the boxes.  You can use paint for this step too.

Finally I added stamps, rub-ons, and doodled all over the canvas.  I added some more white sponging around to make it look like it is snowing on the canvas. Don't forget to give your snowman some arms and a cute face.

She Art Week 2

During week 2 of the She Art class, Christy showed us how to create layers on our girls.

My girls hairdo reminds me of the bump it.  I added the headband to try and calm down the height of the hair.
For this young lady I made her skirt with a bunch of different papers.  I also gave her a cute little cape and hat.
This canvas has a lot of little details.

Getting Messy

I am exploring another mix media class over at Christy Tomlinson's website.  This class involves a bit of painting.  I am trying to master the hair and faces.
I am using a bunch of stencils, paints, stamps, rub-ons, inks and modeling paste for the backgrounds.  It is really fun getting messy while I create the bases for my girls.
Next weeks canvases will involve more layers, different hairstyles and clothing styles.

Long Time No See

Wow, it has been a long time since I have blogged.  I haven't been up to much around here that is blog worthy.  But I have been busy the last week making things to decorate my house for fall.
The first items are a couple canvases.
I just adore fall colors and had great fun painting, layering papers and doodling on these two canvases

Next I printed out a fall subway art and placed it in a frame and that made for some instant art! Besides the ink for printing this is a free project. You can find a great selection of Subway ART  HERE

Next up is a Pinterest find.  As I looked at fall decorations, I kept seeing pumpkins made out of wood.  We certainly have a lot of that down in my hubby's workshop.

So I grabbed some 2x4 and had my son cut them into three different sizes.  Then we did a bit of sanding, chiseling, and drilling. I went outside to find the perfect stems from our kindling pile. I took them up to the craft room to give the wood a few coats of paint and added raffia and fabric.  This project cost absolutely nothing to make!
My last project has to be my favorite.  I found the idea on Pinterest.  My daughter-in-law and I created pillows for our homes.  It was easy to make.  If you have fabric scraps you could make this pretty quickly.
I had some scraps in my craft room and we went and bought a few more at Jo Ann's.  Sarah also spotted a wood grain fabric that we HAD to buy for the trunk.
We used Wonder Under (fusible web) on the back of our fabric.  We traced the leaves and trunk onto the back of the web.  Then we cut them all out.  You will need about 40 leaves for the tree.  The size will depend on your pillow size.  My leaves were 2.5 inches.
Notice the tree pattern fabric!
Cut the top of your pillow one inch bigger than the pillow size.  Lay out your pieces and arrange them how you want them to look.  Then peal off the back of the webbing.  I did this on the floor and then realized I couldn't move it to my ironing board.  So I slid it over and ironed them on the floor.
After you get them ironed on, bring it up to the ironing board and give it a good pressing to make sure they are attached.
Next I took some DMC floss and stitched around all the leaves and trunk.  I did this while watching TV and had it done in a few hours.
I made an envelope pillow case and slipped in a pillow from the couch.  I think it turned out super cute.  I posted a Youtube video I found on how to make the pillow on the post before this one.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope I gave you some fun and quick fall decorating ideas.  Now go get crafting!

Tiny Canvas Creations

Today I pulled out some itty bitty canvases.
They are 4"x 5" in size.

I painted the background my favorite color of blue.  Then I took some tissue paper and twisted them into pretty little flowers.
I glued the flowers to paper circles.
Twist the paper as you go around.

I added some stamps, paint, rub-ons and ink to the canvas  Then I cut out grass,
stems, and leaves from green paper.  I Modge Podged it all on and
add some paint and more stamps for texture.

My next canvas I did the same steps and added a heart.
Less of self and more of Jesus, More and more each day like Thee; Just to live in full surrender For my Lord who ransomed me. —Wonder

No life is more secure than a life surrendered to God.

Christmas Art

This month I have been working on some
mix media Christmas art!
I love Christy Tomlinson's artwork.
She is messy and creative!
It's all about making a textured background with Mod Podge, paper, paint, rubons and stamps.  Then we created different subjects, like trees, animals, snowmen and my favorite baby Jesus. Then you highlights, paint and doodle to add detail to the piece.

My snowman is made with washi tape.   I made boxes so it looked like he was made with presents.

I just used cardboard for the "canvas".  You can use cereal boxes, wood scraps or whatever you have laying around.
I still have a few more projects to work on.  I just wanted to share these with all of you!  Thanks for stopping by!

Flower Canvas

Well I found another neat idea on Pinterest!  This one is very simple to create.  I used scraps from a coordinating pack of papers to make it simple to match.  I made little pedal templates from cardstock.
Next I laid out all my pedals and
arranged them on the canvas.
I began Mod Podging them down to the canvas. The best way to do this is to put the MP on the canvas (one pedal at a time), then on the back of your pedal.  Next, place the pedal down and brush another layer of MP on top, while smoothing out the paper.  When the pedal went over the edge I glued it down around the edge of the canvas. Finally cover the entire canvas with a coat of MP.
This is a easy way to add art to a room!
Just buy some paper (on sale of course) to match your room and go for it!
