Hymn & Scripture Challenge

The Hymn challenge is back!  Patter moved so we took a little break.  It is another of my favorites.  It was perfect timing for me.   This week's hymn is "When We All Get to Heaven."  You can read the devotion HERE 

The verse I used is Revalation 21:4.

I went to my friends memorial last night.  She planned the memorial (chose the songs and readings...) to comfort US.  She wasn't fearful of dying and wanted us to rejoice in where she is now.  The memorial was attended by over 400 people.  They were standing in the halls and parking lot!  She had such a strong faith and served others till the day she died. 

I am so glad my God has prepared a place for me.

Hymn & Scripture Challenge

I have been away on vacation.  I am busy sorting through about 1500 pictures from our Alaskan aventures.  So stay tuned for details.

With all the changes in my life I find comfort in surrendering everything to the Lord and He will lead me in all that I do.

God’s love is endless. We are to love others as Christ loves us. This hymn tells of God’s immeasurable love.

This song seems fitting for Easter.

For God showed us love by dying on the cross for our sins.

Hymn & Scripture Challenge 2012

The next hymn in the challenge is Standing on the Promises by Russell Kelso Carter.  You can read Patter's devotion about this hymn at her site, Triple the Scraps

 

It was hard to just pick one verse for my page.  The Lord gives us sooooo many promises in his word.  Patter shared this site called 365 Promises.  You can sign up for a daily promise to be sent to you.  What I love is the verses are placed on beautiful pictures.  Something I like to do too.  I recieve them on my phone every morning.  What a great way to wake each day!  They also have slide shows for each month of the year to watch.  I spent a long time at this site.  It really stired my heart.  Please take some time to visit the site.

Hymn & Scripture Challenge 2012

This weeks hymn is "How Great Thou Art" by Stuart Hine.  Stuart read a poem written by a Swedish preacher named Carl Boberg.  This poem inspired him to write the lyrics to this song.  You can read Patter's devotion about this hymn HERE 

I love old hymns.  I think they are becoming a lost art in the church.  I remember at a church I once attended, the music director took time to explain the history behind the hymn 'It Is Well With My Soul".  After listening to the story the song has so much more meaning to me every time I sing it.  Just as  I learn about all these songs, they will stir up my heart a bit more the next time I sing them.

Old hymn are falling to the wayside in todays modern church.  The church wants to become more hip or current to serve the younger generations, which is ok I guess.  But I hope music dierectors take time to teach todays church a bit of history in these great old hymns!

Hymn & Scripture Challenge

I began a new study this week.  Over at TRIPLE THE SCRAPS  they are starting a Hymn & Scripture challenge for 2012.  Click the link to go look at the challenge.  We will be studying the history behind hymns and the people who wrote them. 

This weeks hymn is Amazing Grace written by John Newton.

Also, there is a movie called Amazing Grace  that was released back in 2007 that speaks to the history of the slave trade and the people who fought to abolish it. 

 

For my HSCRC12 page, I went to a used book store and bought an old hymnal.  I am using the pages as my background.  I will be posting my pages in a tab at the top of my blog, so you can reference them anytime throughout the year.
