Snow Day!

Well, Northern Virginia got hit with some snow!  Twelve inches is a HUGE storm for this area.  We are all huddle up in our homes waiting for the all clear.  Hahahaha

I had to go out and shovel the walkway so our pets could get out.

Last night we all guessed how much snow we would receive overnight.  Matthew hit it right on the nose!

Of course this Chicago girl had to go out and build a snowman.  The snow was perfect!

I had a hard time finding things for his face, so he looks a bit freaky!  I cut out some hearts for our Valentine picture.  Yes I plan photos.

Enjoy your day off!

Washi Tape Snowman

Today I created a cute canvas for my front hall shelf.  This is my version of the washi tape snowman. (Originally created by Christy Tomlinson.)  I used a 6x12 canvas and a variety of  tapes.  When I make a canvas I use just plain, cheap acrylic paints from AC Moore or Michaels.  I drip the paint around the canvas and smear it around the canvas.  I do use a latex type glove to move the paint.  Then I use a heat gun to dry it.  I use Gesso and a sponge/bubble wrap to add texture (snow) to the canvas.

Then I picked out a nice selection of tapes
to use for my snowman.  I taped them down on the canvas like I was stacking packages or blocks.  I put a good coat of Modge Podge over the tape to make sure they stick down.

Next I took my favorite Faber Castell Big Brush markers and colored/shaded around each of the boxes.  You can use paint for this step too.

Finally I added stamps, rub-ons, and doodled all over the canvas.  I added some more white sponging around to make it look like it is snowing on the canvas. Don't forget to give your snowman some arms and a cute face.

Thrifty Decorations

After hitting the Dollar Store after Christmas sales, I was ready to make some quick winter decorations for around the house.

I used some foam core that I had left over from a past project.  (You could also use cardboard.)  I traced a very rough shape of a heart and then I cut it out with my razor blade.  I made the width of the heart about 2 inches wide.

I then began to wrap my red garland around the heart shape.  After I was done I could see the white through the garland.  So I ripped up some red fabric and wrapped the heart with it.  Then I re-wrapped the wreath.
It turned out real cute.  My hanger was brown and I didn't like the look of that, so I wrapped that in red fabric too.
Next up is my fireplace.  As you can see it is HUGE.  I always have a wreath hanging on it to break up all that rock.
Instead of leaving my Christmas wreath up for the winter, I decided to make a wintery wreath.  Again I used a vine wreath that I had in my closet.  Then I tied on some snowflakes from the Dollar Store.  I made the bow with the same ribbon I used for our presents this year.  I just love the bright red and white colors.
So there you have it, two wreaths for under five dollars.
Thanks for stopping by!
Have a blessed day.
